Recording Session with Ron Carter

On Monday, February 7, 2011 Robert Musso produced a recording session with legendary Jazz Bassist, Ron Carter, for Bootsy Collins’ new CD at the Institute of Audio Research’s studio. Students and Alumni of IAR helped with the session. Guess who came by the studio? Label artist Mark Daterman from Radio Silent!

Ron Carter’s session was shorter than the set-up.  He arrived at the studio ready to record with his upright bass. He listened to the track once and then he let the music flow through his fingers. It was perfect on the first take and we recorded two more tracks. It was a smooth, quick, and pleasant experience.

For those of you who may not know who Ron Carter is, he has recorded over 2,000 albums which make him the most recorded bassist in Jazz history. He’s worked with Miles, Herbie Hancock, Harry Connick Jr., Roberta Flack, Quincy Jones, A Tribe Called Quest, and the list goes on.
